my friends pal was dilated 2cm yesterday and the doctor stretched her cervix and she ended up having the baby this morning. so i was just wondering what this means and why the doctor would do it?

i'm 37 weeks pregnant, which means technically i'm full term, and my doctor says everything looks great and that now we're just "playing the waiting game" until we can jump up and down saying glad birthday. she's about 6 lbs 9 oz now so she's perfectly healthy and head down.

My LMP was December 7th, 2009. we found out we were pregnant on February 14th 2010. on my first appointment my doctor said i should be about 10 weeks going by my LMP but only saw an amniotic sac so she said i probably ovulated later. (my periods are also irregular) my second appointment she said i was six weeks and one day that was a week and a half ago. i went into the ER last night because i felt something was wrong. doctor did and ultrasound and said it seems to be i'm only six weeks and five days with no heartbeat. i had no bleeding, my hcg levels were 15,757. Could i have had a miscarriage without any cramps, cervix is closed, baby is not in my Fallopian tube, and no bleeding. i've heard of a missed miscarriage and thats when there is just not heartbeat without any cramping. has this happened to anyone else? please help!

I have a posterior cervix and when I go for smear tests the doctors have great difficulty finding it. I am concerned because I am interested in self insemination and if the doctors have trouble I definitely will. I read that people have problems getting pregnant because the sperm has problems finding a posterior cervix.. So worried. Any tips? Would I need to use a speculum and would I be able to use both the speculum and syringe at the same time? It's every beginning to sound quite gruesome. Thanks Bailey. I mentioned a speculum to open up the vagina to look where the cervix is but your post has helped. I didn't fancy using a speculum anyway. Just don't want to inseminate in the wrong direction lol. Apparently there are a population of people with posterior cervix's that have probs getting pregnant. Perhaps they need to lift their legs Lol.

into cancer? i had cin1 then cin2 and i am now at cin3. my doctor says we need to wait until it turns into cancer just in case i want to have kids. how long? thanks

every 6 months they have to do a colposcopy and biopsy and i cancelled my medical insurance last november because it was almost $400.00 a month and i couldn't afford it. now, i have the money and they won't give me insurance because they now say it's a pre existing condition. i need another biopsy this month. what do i do? the procedure is too expensive.

I am on birth control, but I had unprotected sex, before and after taking antibiotics. I was due for my period 1 week ago, but am not sure if I got it. I had white and brown mucus when I wiped and one time when i peed a little gush of pinkish/reddish liquid. I usually have a light period, but enough to use a tampon for a day or two. I did not need more than a panty liner. I don't want to count the obvious pregnancy signs such as sleepy, insomnia, hunger, and moodiness, because I have been below a lot of stress. I didn't track my bbt the entire month, but I know that normally I am around 97 degrees farenheit and during the time I was taking antibiotics (when I think I ovulated it was 99 degrees farenheit) I haven't taken my temp again until now (5 days after my "missed period/spotting") and it is still 99 degrees farenheit. I took 2 tests on the day of my "missed period" and they were negative. My stomach is very bloated (I'm normal/ skinny) & when I stuck my fingers inside it was very soft and I could only feel a tender bump very high up, when I took my fingers out there was a white, cloudy, creamy discharge. I have tried to research and I don't know what an open or closed cervix feels like. I feel weird in my stomach (bubbly, fluttery) Do you think it is highly likely that I am pregnant?

now this is complicated, i had my implanon out 2 weeks ago, been having intercourse almost none cease since, my periods had stopped with the implanon in, the last couple of days i have had slight cramping, like period pains but not as bad and as frequent, i examined myself today and i have thick clear mucus from the cervix area its very stretchy, my boobs are really tender, i feel like crying every the time and very sick in the evenings, also with the mucus if i but my finger by the cervix hole i receive a slight bit of blood nothing massive just pink, usually when i receive a period i receive the pain a few days before constantly and then i start with dark brown blood, please help as we have been ttc since the implanon was removed. thanks x

Help! I don't know what to do! I got a Paragard about a month and a half ago. It was very painful and had a lot of cramping for several days. After that things were fine so I tried to have sex with my boyfriend who I live with. He said he could feel something so I went in and asked them to clip the strings. She did and we tried to have sex again and he freaked out in the middle of things saying it felt like it clip him it was so painful. I went in again and she said the reason is because she clip the strings too short and now they won't coil around the cervix. I'm not sure what to do, I've already put a lot of money into this and it has been a very painful experience! I am very frustrated... doesn't the nurse have some liability here? Like if she clip the strings wrong then shouldn't she put a new one in? Why is it on the patient?

i ovulated around between feb 25th and march 4th... today is march 9th, now the reason i out the dates so widly apart is because i have an irregular period and my docter gives me these dates. so on sat the 27th i know is when i was most likely ovulating we had sex and normaly his *** comes right out of me it never stays in(ever) and then i can feel it when ever he does *** and it was a whole lot more then usual sorry TMI then i went to the bathromm to pee for it to arrive out and nothing, i think it was caused from my cervix being open but hey im not docter. then about three hours later about a penny size came back out on tissue.? im am suppose to start my period in about three or four days, and normaly have sign about a week before i start its never later then day 33 and im on day 27, i know you are probaly going to say wait till your missed period but it is difficult with a irregular period ,, i just want to know your opinion on this, and what do you think about this?

I have had 3 IUI's and every have not ended in pregnancy. The last IUI the doctor mentioned that I have a curved cervix. Can this affect fertility?

First off I'm 19 and my boyfriend and I have our possess apartment together. But I am 2days tardy(not too tardy). But the past week, everytime my boyfriend and I have sex I bleed. And its like fresh blood, very red. It just kinda feels like my cervix is extra sensative. Also, I have been having very little brown discharge(like the end of your period). Woke up to morning sickness, which is weird becuase I never do, it lasted every day... Been feeling the urge to have a bowel for 2 days and had 2 bowel movements just this afternoon (sorry tmi) I feel crampy and swore my water was going to break a minute ago becuase my cervix just felt soft like the baby could of fell out, weird I know... or maybe babys hand were in my cervix area? Does this sound like labor signs should I receive cheked? I'm only 30 weeks along. And had one preterm labor scare and almost had to receive on IV meds to cease contractions at 27 weeks. I think I can feel my cervix being "hit" at certain times through my cycle. Is it correct that when I am most fertile I DON'T feel it and once I do start to notice it being "hit" more often then I am past my fertile time? I am on 100mg of clomid and do keep track of my bbt and cm. I was using this as another tracking method, so since it coincides with the others then it must be accurate! Thanks!

I took plan b about two weeks before my expected period. A week later I had bleeding, that lasted for 7 whole days. Thinking that my period would arrive because it says that with plan b you can bleed before your period, but it never came? I took 9 pregnancy test, some at night, some in the morning, every negative. I waited two weeks then decided that I'd go to the doctors to do the urine test and a blood test. Urine test was negative, and blood results will be coming back in the next few days. Although, today I noticed that my cervix is really soft, and there's more white discharge. I don't know if this is me ovulating or if it's a pregnancy symptom?

i am 37+4 today and i just came from the dr . i am not even 1 cm and my cervix is still firm . they are planning to induce me next week but only if my cervix is ready . is there something i can do to receive my cervix ready or even start labor early ?

Last night I checked myself in to the birthing middle because I was having horrible back pain. I will be 37 weeks tomorrow, 3/10/2010. They hooked me up to monitors and it was showing that I was having contractions 2-4 minutes apart in a 20 minute period. Another 20 minutes passed and the contractions went down to every 5 minutes. The doctor check my cervix and I wasn't dilated AT every. untrue labor. I was sent home and every through the night I had contractions once every hour. They were excruciating! It's frustrating because with my first child I didn't dilate either so I'm wondering if I'm going to have to do another c-section or if this time it will go smoothly. With my first child I didn't even contract until he was full term. They tried to induce me but after 3 days I only dilated to 3. :( I'm really hoping that since I'm starting to contract earlier this time around I can go about it more naturally. Any thoughts?

Last week i bled for 2 1/2 days and the hospital said it was nothing sent me home the nurse thought i probably went into labor and it stopped its self. went to the doctor today and i am dialated 1.5 cm and my cervix has softened and shortened, i have been having bad contractions and they did a fetal fibronectin test to look if i would go into labor. they gave me the steriod shot and hooked me to a monitor, but the doctor is fully prepared for me to go into labor at any minute. is it possible she is not telling me something or am i just paranoid? i will receive the test results back tomorrow morning when i go in to receive my second dose of steroids. i cannot take the medication they gave me to cease contractions/labor because i already have threatening low blood presure and it lowers it even worse. this is my second child and i was given the same stuff with my first and it made me very sick because of the blood presure thing. i am on bed relax so i know not to be doing anything.

I know the real purpose of the trachelectomy is to preserve fertility and my uterus is already fried from the radiation so I doubt this is done often if at every. Anyways, I am just preparing myself for the worst. 2 mos. ago my PET scan revealed a "hot spot" very tiny area on the lower portion of the cervix itself. The doc told me it was most likely nothing, or could be inflammation or infection as well. So today I had the next PET scan which will now show if the "hot spot" is still there. If it is, I will go in for a biopsy of the area, then chances are hysterectomy would be the common choice to remove the spot. I was offered the radical trachelectomy before they found out it was stage 2 (minor amount of spread to parametrium area, then PET caught lymph nodes too) anyways my doc said cure with trachelectomy seems to be very similar to that with hysterectomy. Now that my chemo/radiation has taken care of the majority of the cancer and the uterus was never cancer anyways, do you know if just a trachelectomy (removal of cervix only) would be possible rather than hysterectomy? The thing is, I am in no physical pain. I have GI problems from it every and they are manageable, just annoying. I feel pretty darn good considering every I went thru just 3 1/2 mos. ago. I would rather keep my surgery to a minimum since I don't look how removing my uterus in the process would help at every. It's also a mental issue for me, I would be fine with waking up to a trachelectomy but removing the uterus is like the identity of a lady to me. I would be very mentally disturbed by this. (I've already talked to counselors about it, I don't think theres anything anyone can say to change my mind on that one)... So is there any reason trachelectomy would not be a good choice for a tiny amount of residual cancer which is contained in the lower portion of the cervix? Well chance of baby is out of the question anyways because my uterus is fried, it is totally useless. But at the same time it is not painful at every so why remove it right? I know I ask difficult questions, I challenge my docs a lot and I am just about to the point you mention Spreedog...I think I am personally going to receive my hands into the records, reports and files. I think I have enough info to receive a pretty good understanding of a lot of it. People receive irritated with me for "thinking outside of the box" but too bad, thats just how I am...so far it's helped me and surprised those around me that I was right, and worst case scenario I put myself thru a little extra testing, etc. to verify the unknown. Thanks for that advice, I am going to receive more hands on. Next appt. is next Friday and I am going to demand difficult core facts and documents/test results. I'm done letting others dictate my treatment without letting me look things for myself and giving me no choices in the matter. Thanks! Also you mention the HPV vaccine...thank god I have always been high risk HPV negative and tested for that yearly (I didn't even know that it had been done but every previous pap show HPV status negative)...and also no active HPV infection showing up in my body...because I would have to hunt down my cheater ex if thats what caused this...so it's probably a good thing I am a rarity in that category. It's the first thing that came to mind when I found out about the CC in the beginning...I was furious, but doc quickly put that fear to relax.

Had a scan on my cervix today and was told thatt it has gone from 5cm to 2cm. The doctor told me not to worry about it but can't help but. I've heard that it shouldn't change until at least 2 wks before labour starts. Has this happened to anyone else? I am 24 wks and 2 days

and frequency of peeing and a slight off odor to urine, G.P thought it was UTI and prescribed me a 3 day course of trimethoprim which did not make any difference, i went back and she took swabs from cervix , which she sais was tender and sent my bloods off, she then said i may have pelvic inflammatory disease so she put me on metroridazole and doxcycline, which have just given me a white tongue. , my bloods and my urine and swabs every came back normal although my urine result stated something about pus growth or cells can't remember exactly now.Plus i'm waiting for an abdo and pelvic ultrasound God only knows when i will recieve an appointment as its through the NHS Has anyone gone through the same or knows any knowledge on the matter? I would really appreciate it if you could leave me some info.

I will be 40 weeks on Friday. On last Sunday and Monday, I lost my mucous plug. Since then, I have been having menstrual-like cramps and loose stools, as well as increased pressure in my lower abdomen and a few episodes of back pain. The cramps are not regular, but have been increasing in frequency over the last few days. They have only slightly increased in intensity, but the duration of each seems to be pretty much the same. Sometimes, it feels like the baby is kicking/pushing on the cervix. The menstrual-like cramps do seem to last longer than what I've read a contraction would last (3-4 minutes instead of 1-2), so I don't know quite what they are. I have a dr. appointment tomorrow evening, so I am thinking to just wait until then unless the pains receive closer and more intense. Does this sound like early labor? Could the pains be contractions? I never really had Braxton-Hicks throughout my pregnancy, so I don't have anything to compare them to. Thanks for any advice!

Okaaay so first off, I called my doctor, but she was acturally in L&D delivering a baby, so i'm suppose to receive a call back within the hour. So please, nothing like go to the hospital, call your doctor. I know that!! Here's my story. I'm currently 36wks pregnant as of today! When I was 32 wks pregnant I went into preterm labor, they had to cease my contractions, because I had dilated to 2cm & was 75% effaced. The reason I went into labor, was because me and my husband had sex, and obviously my cervix or whatever is really low, so it hit it, irritated it, and I started bleeding ( like a light period, or the start of a period ). Anyway I was in the hospital for 5 days, I was given steriod shots for baby and every. + When I went home I was put on procardia to make sure I wouldn't start contracting anymore. Well yesterday I had a doctors appt. & he told me I could cease taking procardia & sex was now okay. So of course me and my husband done it today. We did it once early in the evening, and nothing happened, no contractions, no bleeding, I was fine. Well we did it about 2 hours ago, and I started bleeding ( like I did when I was 32 wks ) and I've been getting contractions every other minute or so but they arent painful at every. I mean I feel my belly tensing up, but I'm in no pain. That's why I'm not really worried. I couldn't feel any contraction pains either when i was in the hospital for preterm. Why can't I feel them? me and my bf are trying for a baby but iv found out iv got health problems.i might have polycystic ovaries and recently i found out i have moderate dyskaryosis which is not cancer, nor is it harmful in its possess right. It refers to some mild changes in the appearance of the cells, which normally cover the surface of the cervix (the neck of the womb). which can guide to cancerous later on.i am getting so depressed cause it feels like i will never have a baby. also feel jelaous cause i hear about every them people that have had baby or are pregnant and they dont have any problems. dont know how to feel postive anymore.im 21 years old and my bf 25.

Ok so when I was 14 weeks pregnant I went to the er and the mesured my cervix and the said it mesured 4 and 2 day I had an ultrasound at my clinic by my doctor she said it was at 3 now it kinda worried me because its now shorter, I didn't mention it to her because she said it looked good and long but now I think I should have told her that when I got it mesured at an other hospital by an other doctor it was longer so she doesn't know that before it was at4 So what do you think? Normal not normal? Why are you asking me why I am getting my cervix mesured so early?? Does it really matter why?? I didn't know you had to be a certain amount of weeks to receive your cervix mesured...??? And because I have had 5 miscarriages before and have had other problems with my cervix and 24 weeks is not too early to receive your cervix mesured... um duh!

i am 30 weeks and 3 days, and this morning when i woke up i noticed i was bleeding. i went to the ER room. they did a bunch of exams on me, and couldn't look where i was bleeding from. in other words they said didn't look any blood. they said my cervix looked good, but that i was 2cm, which they weren't worried about. also my baby's heartbeat was good, and in the ultrasound they did she looked perfect. has this happened to anybody else, and did you have your baby at 40 weeks?

My vagina is only 3 - 4 inches deep and my boyfriend can't fit it every the way in. i've searched similar questions and they say that it is supposed to swell up and the cervix push back when aroused so that it is deeper. But After about 3 - 4 inches in It won't go in any more and I can feel it pushing on my cervix. And we have a lot of foreplay and when he enters i'm already hot and wet (sorry for too much info) and ready to go. How can I fix this? And I have read about arousal cream or gel, and its supposed to make it feel better and help arousal. Anyone else have this problem? Will the cream/gel help ? Thanks.

I am 36 weeks and 5 days pregnant. Last night I was lying on the sofa and felt some water arrive out onto my leg/crotch area. It wasn't watery-like discharge, it definitely felt just like water and had no odor or color. I stood up and some more trickled out and trickled out every the way to the bathroom but never gushed or seemed like it was for sure my water breaking like in the movies. (sorry this is getting long) I went to bed lastnite since it had stopped leaking for a while and I was woken up this morning with some more trickling down my leg and in my underwear. Now this morning I haven't really had any more significant leaking, just a tiny bit here and there. The only catch, that is making it difficult for me to figure what to do, is that I have been using EPO (evening primrose oil) inserted at night to help my cervix thin/efface for about 12 days. I couldn't tell this morning if I was leaking only EPO or if there was more amniotic fluid, BUT lastnite when it trickled out the first time I had not put any EPO in yet. Also, I have been having and increased amount of dull low backache and painless braxton hicks type contractions since right before this every started lastnite. SO, did my water break, am I leaking, or is it something else totally different and I am just officiallyy crazy from being pregnant so long? * Sorry that was really long. I know that I can/should call my doctor or L&D but I wanted some opinions before I do since I am waiting for my Husband to arrive home first.

The first day of my LMP was February 14, 2010 (i also take YAZ) Around February 20th, I started taking antibiotics for a UTI (sulfamethoxazole). According to the ovulation calendar, i was most fertile the 24-28th. I had unprotected sex those days using the "withdraw" method. I have read that sulfamethozazole will cause yaz to not work properly. The past couple days i've had cramps and just a little bit of brown spotting. Now, here I am about 5 days before i'm supposed to start my period with a high, closed, firm feeling cervix. This stuff confuses me. :) I guess i'm just looking for a little help on trying to figure it out. I've taken a pregnancy test but it was negative. If i am pregnant, it's probably too early to tell. My breasts haven't been sore but, today i've been getting dizzy and the past 2 mornings when i've woken up, i've felt nauseous. Let me know what you think! I should also add that during my first pregnancy, i did not have swollen or tender breasts.

So ive been to the doctors and they did a pelvic exam and tests and they said my cervix was swollen and i had some abnormal discharge. They did the swabs and everything came back NEGATIVE! I have been on and off of antibiotics and ive heard they can cause yeast infections. My discharge is looking like cottage cheese. It does not itch or odor down there. Is this normal for a yeast infection. This has been very stubborn. It is taking forever to go away!!!!! It seems like it gets better then i have to take antibiotics for a kidney infection then every a sudden the discharge comes back! IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN TAKE TO MAKE THIS GO AWAY? BESIDES THE PILL THE DR GAVE ME. I'M VERY UPSET.

My last two periods were waaayy lighter (lasting 3-4 days) and the last one only lasted a day. Normally they last for 5-7. My breasts feel tingly, I receive sick if I do eat, then I receive sick if I don't eat, it feels like my period is about to arrive, but doesn't. Anybody know what's going on? I've taken hpt every came back negative. I've heard that happens sometimes though, but I also went to a dr. who said my cervix looked fine. I don't trust him though because the last time I went to him he said I had a prolapsed uterus (i'm only 20 w/no kids, and i'm not terribly overweight) so i really don't trust his judgement.

I just got a call from my doctor saying that I have to arrive back in so she can put vinegar on my cervix because I had mild abnormal cells that showed up on my pap. I have a yeast infection n i have the cottage cheese discharge. It looks like very little clumps of cottage cheese. I'm also swollen up there n my cervix is too. Dr's did tests they every came up NEGATIVE. But is this normal for a yeast infection.

My bump has dropped and hes 2/5 palpable...(what does this mean?) ...my midwife says he has dropped and his head is quite low down...for the past two days ive been feeling VERY crampy, like the start of period pains....also occasional back ache, on what i think have been contractions (although very irregular)...is this early labour or just the fact that the babys head is engaging and the softening of the cervix causing these period aches/back ache?? its difficult to tell...btw, this is my first, a boy and hes measuring 40-41 weeks (im 40 weeks)

hi people,I was due last tuesday 2nd March according to my family gp and my first date from gp in hospital.The problem is when I went to receive a scan done in November they said the baby was too tiny and gave me the later date of 28th of March.I discussed this awith the gp and they said they would take a better look closer to the time of due date.I know my dates are correct - I was getting morning sickness from this week onwards,I remember having a show which I thought was spotting at the time as I was on microlite.My last period was the 26th of May.I am also silent posotive of dates as me and the dad of the child were split up at this stage in June.He also caused me alot of stress and grief harrassing me for months which continued and is still continuing now.Could this be a reason why the baby was so tiny during scan dates and what should I do-Hospital wont hear to me and I am feeling very aggitated uncomfotable at this stage-When I explain to them every of the over they just say well we will find out if we are wrong and you are right if you go soon.I have been having contractions for three weeks and the baby is getting so strong and uncomfortable.When I went into hospital on Monday 8th this week they didnt even check my cervix or do a scan-They just said the baby was fine and its head was still down as been for months.They found protein in my urine but sent me home.IM SO FRUSTRATED-obviosly hospital procedures are to go by scan dates....whats should I do... :( Remember -I was finished with the dad of child by 8th of june easily so unless it was an immaculate conception the dates cannot be right-docs wont hear to me and is it not dangerous to go over to far?im afraid at this stage they will let me go two weeks over the 28th of march before doing anything-i cant even walk or move from my bed at this stage with pelvic pain???
